About the NDIS
The NDIS funds long-term, high quality care and support for people with a significant disability. This is an exciting and revolutionary change from the past when supports were decided on for clients, not with them. It is now law that the client exercises “choice and control in the pursuit of their goals and the planning and delivery of their supports”.
The NDIS also supports access by people with disability to mainstream services such as health, housing and education. When fully implemented in 2019, the NDIS will fund around 460,000 people with disability to receive individualised supports. It is fair to say that the history will report the NDIS as a national treasure along with Medicare and the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme.
